Proactive Photobiomodulation: Preparing the Body for Performance and Recovery Upcoming

Traditionally, much of the clinical application and research surrounding photobiomodulation (PBM) has focused on post-injury and post-event recovery. However, growing evidence supports the use of PBM as a proactive treatment strategy prior to athletic performance, intense physical activity, or even surgical intervention. Athletes, trainers, and healthcare professionals are increasingly utilizing PBM as a preconditioning tool designed to prepare tissues for physical stress, improve performance, and reduce the physiological impact of exertion. Research suggests that pre-exercise PBM may enhance muscular endurance, delay fatigue onset, improve muscle efficiency, support oxygen utilization, and reduce perceived exertion during activity.

We will explore practical protocols for implementing PBM before and after athletic events as well as surgical procedures. Participants will learn how to structure effective treatment timelines for both elite athletes and recreational patients, with an emphasis on optimizing performance, minimizing tissue stress, and accelerating recovery.

In this webinar, Dr Christopher Carraway and his special guest, Timothy Demchak, PhD, ATC will examine the role of PBM in surgical preparation and post-operative recovery, including applications ranging from dental procedures to major orthopedic surgeries. Attendees will gain insight into how pre-surgical PBM protocols may help reduce inflammation, decrease pain, and improve healing outcomes, while learning how to seamlessly transition patients through both pre- and post-event treatment phases for superior clinical results.

Key Takeaways

- Understand the emerging role of PBM as a preconditioning tool for athletic performance and surgical preparation

- Learn practical pre- and post-event PBM protocols to improve recovery, reduce fatigue, and support tissue healing

- Develop effective treatment timelines for athletes, active individuals, and surgical patients to optimize clinical outcomes
